Shikoku
Matsuyama
I've got to say it's getting a little smelly in the cockpit. Might be time to get a hot bath somewhere. Maybe at Dogo Onsen. So off to Matsuyama!
That's some bridge. |
Awaji Island, between Honshu and Shikoku, is the Island of the Gods. It was the first island formed at the creation of the world, and the god Izanaginomikoto spent his days here at the spot currently home to the Izangi Jingu shrine. The island is also quite well known for puppet theatre. |
And here comes Shikoku Island. We're somewhat near Sanuki and in this shot, if you could see them all, there would be dozens and dozens of Buddhist temples on the Henro. |
They sure have some impressive bridges around here. This one is the Besan-Seto bridge, connecting Shikoku with Honshu over the Seto inland sea. |
Which would be this inland sea right here. |
There's some clouds in the mountains, so I think we should follow the little valley from Saijo. |
The valley comes out at the continuum that is Toon, Iyo and Matsuyama. |
Here's our stop, Matsuyama. That big stadium looking thing is Matsuyama Central Park Baseball Stadium, or Botchan Stadium for short. It is home to the Ehime Mandarin Pirates. Baseball is quite a thing in Japan. |
So that's about it for our pilgrimage. Tomorrow it's a pilgrimage of a different nature. |
