Tohoku
Aomori
Today it's off to Aomori in Tohoku region. Apparently Aomori gets the most snowfall of any city anywhere. But they're still known for their apples. Neat.
It's kind of the wrong way, but we're going to do a fly-by of Sapporo while we're in the area. |
The museum of beer is down there somewhere to the left. Straight ahead is Moerenuma Park. |
But we've really got to head back south. |
Just the other side of Mount Eniwa is Lake Shikotsu. All part of Shikotsu-Toya national park. |
And just past Lake Kuttara, a nearly circular caldera lake, is Jigokudani - Hell Valley. They have bears there. |
Lake Toya, another caldera and the other half of the name of the park it's in. |
A little cloudy crossing Tsugaru Strait between Hokkaido and Honshu islands. |
And here we have Aomori. It does indeed look like they get the most snow of anywhere. Also not a very dense city. It is the same physical size as Toronto (give or take), but with a tenth the population the density is about 340 people per square kilometer. Aomori is the northern terminus of the Shinkansen Bullet Trains, which reach a blistering speed of 360 kilometers per hour, or just very slightly faster than our Pitts Special. |
So that's it for today. Until tomorrow. |
