Grundy Lake Sep 8th - 13th 2019
Hadn't been to Grundy for a bit and we didn't feel like driving too far after Lake Superior, so we decided on Grundy.
Sep 8th Short Walk
Takes about two hours to get to Grundy. We expected rain so the tarp had to go up. Then off for a short walk through the park to get our bearings and then steak and potatoes and beer.
Sep 9th Swan Lake, Beaver Dam
Swan Lake was a surprisingly good hike. Lots of turtles and a big blue heron right up close, but sadly no camera. We went back later and got some after the fact pictures, but meanwhile the blueheron and the turtles had all disappeared. This was the last day for Swan Lake as they're tearing down and rebuilding the boardwalks. We tried fishing on Gut Lake, but so far we it's all fishing and no catching.

Sep 10th Gut Lake and Thunderstorms
Rainy and cold. We hiked gut lake, a little 2.5 km walk, tried unsuccesfull fishing again. Hamburgers for supper huddled in our little dining shelter which it turns out provides scanty protection from a torrential rain storm.
Sep 11th French River
Weather was still iffy, so we headed to Britt for a restaurant meal. Turns out the restaurant didn't open till 1:00 so we backtracked to French River and ate at the Hungry Bear. OK I guess. Then we went to the French River park for their one hike, the Recollet Waterfall. Very pretty. More fishing (got a nibble and lost half a worm) and then back home for pasta night.

Sep 12th Windy Tippy Canoe
This was the day we rented a canoe. And what a day. White caps and a terrific wind made for an unforgettable couple of canoe rides. But we made it. the fish continued to keep a respectful distance from our fishing gear. Ham, potatoes and rice for supper.
