Lirung
Today we start our Indonesian adventure. We're off to Lirung. Or Melonguane. Or Melongguane with a double g. It's kind of hard to say because Google is oddly silent about the place. I mean, if you google Tilt Cove, the smallest town on the planet at 5 people, you get 2,550,000 results (in 0.53 seconds). There's even an article on how they spent Christmas. But for whichever town is serviced by WAMN airport there is almost naught to be known. Maybe we'll write a Wikipedia article when we get there.
Paalam ng pilipinas. |
Talicud Island, another touristy place. |
Today's going to be a watery flight I'm afraid. |
Of course, we can swing over the bay to Malita and follow the coast for a bit. |
Or swing inland. Might be more scenery in the mountains.
General Santos City. Tuna capital of the Philippines they say.
Leaving the Philippines. This is Sarangani Island, known for its Tuna Pookee which is something like Ceviche. The next island is Balut, a potentially active Fumarolic volcano. |
Nothing. |
And there's Indonesia. Karakelong Island. 4 Degrees north of the equator at this point. Now we just follow the coast down to our destination.
And here we are for the night, Melinguane. I think Lirung is technically across the straight on that little island. So we'll stay here. The extensive information available on the net tells me that Melaguane has a population of 10,463 and a tropical rainforest climate. Also they have a big statue of Jesus. Since the Talaud Islands are closer to the Philippines than the rest of Indonesia, most of the inhabitants are Christian. Anyhow, selamat malam. |
